Duffy Role Model

1410304757701.3.jpgToday at our Duffy assembly a woman named Niva Retimanu came to our school to tell us about herself. She lived in Samoa until she moved to Invercargill. Her dad would take her and her siblings to the library and that is when she learnt how to read. When she grew up she wanted to be a reporter but she ended up studying to become a news announcer because radio people told her that she has an unusual voice. She told us that in her house she has over 500 books and her motto is “Its cool to read, its cool to achieve.

On the way there would be a chain with fractions on it and behind it is the fraction that you need to get. If you get it wrong then the frog gets shocked if you get it right then you break through the chain. To me this game was easy for me because I understood the game very well and I know my fractions.

I want to be a millionaire

Walt:write a paragraph
Having a million dollars would be awesome but infact its just a dream that just won’t happen but if it would happen here are three reason on what I would do with a million dollars.

My first reason on why I want to be a millionaire is to help my family first with the rent and the bills because the only person that is paying it is my mum and dad they work hard to pay the bills and the rent and also out food on our table and take care of me and my brother at the same time.

My second reason on why I would like to be a millionaire is to take over loom bands companies to make even more money and to have successful future and a very successful company since almost everyone is wearing and making it.

My last reason on why I would like to be a millionaire is to buy all the cars that has in the movies fast and furious so when I get older I have a lot of cool cars. Also along with that is a cool house that goes underground and game room, indoor pool, a theatre and other cool rooms.

Dental Presentation

Thank you Mrs Wallbridge for taking your time to come to school and answering our questions. Also your presentation was fantastic and interesting. The new things that I found interesting was that when your teeth falls out that you can just put it back into and it will start to stick back into your mouth, also that you can lose half of your mouth by just smoking and doing other bad things.

When I get home I will tell my parents and sibling about the presentation.

Teeth Traditions Around the World

Walt: look for information.

There are many teeth traditions around the world and some of these traditions are compulsory in their countries and the other countries only the people that are most respectful or still think it is good to carry on the tradition .
815307_UIJSGCDMREPTKCO.gif

Mexico
In Mexico the people believed that instead of a tooth fairy coming and taking a mouse would come. The Mexicans said that a mouse named Ratoncito Perez would crawl into  the house and it would climb onto the bed and crawl under the pillow and grab the tooth in exchange for a gold coin. People described the mouse as the white fairy mouse.

flag-nepal-wehende-flagge-60x45.gif Nepal
In Nepal the kids thought it was bad luck if a bird takes or sees their teeth . They think that if a bird snatches their tooth then a new tooth will not grow in its place. To protect their teeth they would bury their teeth because it will be never seen or found by a bird.

Indonesia
flag-indonesia-wehende-flagge-60x90.gifWhen Indonesian kids teeth fall out then they would gather them all  up . When all the teeth is gathered they will stand at the front of their house facing the opposite way and throwing them backwards. If they throw their teeth straight onto the roof then their permanent teeth will be straight. If they throw it crookedly than their permanent teeth will be crooked.

American Indian Tribes.
animierte-flagge-vereinigte-staaten-von-amerika-usa.gifThe parents in the Chippewa tribe would cover the children lost teeth with charcoal so it would be all black and then throw it to the west and it would make their permanent teeth strong. The kids in the Cherokee tribe would run around the house then throw their teeth on the roof while reciting “ beaver put a new tooth in my jaw.” Kids in the Teton tribe would bury their teeth at the entrance of the lodge and if anyone walks over it then they would grow a new tooth. The mothers or grandmothers of the Dene Yellowknives tribe would put their children teeth in a tree and their families would come and  dance around the tree and that meant that the childs new tooth would be straight as a tree.

In conclusion you now now the different types of teeth traditions from the four countries that I have found most interesting  I have showed you. I hope you found it interesting and hope that you might try to do the traditions that I have choose.

Authors Purpose

Screenshot 2014-05-15 at 12.05.51.png
Walt: explain an author's purpose

In this game you had to find out what was the authors purpose of the text. For me some of the questions were easy but the others were a little confusing.  I got  a high score of $64,000 . The options you had was entertain , inform or persuade , and you only get three hints if you get stuck on the game. For me it was easy at times but it also had some challenges along the game. The hardest thing was the persuade because there were many different examples.
